Anubis is the Ancient Egyptian god associated with mummification, the afterlife and protector of the dead. It is believed that Anubis ruled over the underworld and personally judged all who would enter based on the weight of their heart. Anubis's figure is traditionally known as the masculine figure of a man for his body and the head of a jackal, as they were associated with death because they lurked around cemeteries and would eat decomposing flesh. Anubis protected the bodies from being devoured.
